Tencel – Tencel…also known as Lyocell – Natural White
Tencel is a commercial name for Lyocell fibre. It is a cellulose fibre made from wood pulp, often eucalyptus, but this fibre seems about as far away from wooden as you could get. It is extremely shiny white and soft. It is absorbent, very strong when wet or dry, and resistant to wrinkles when woven. It drapes well, and in a fabric can be machine or hand-washed or dry cleaned. It can be dyed many colors, using a dye for plant fibres.
Tencel is often used in fibre blends. It is useful for spinning, carding, felting, dyeing, and paper making.
